Travel northwest to Kumasi, the capital of the ancient Ashanti Kingdom and one of West Africa’s most vibrant cities. Check into Ridge Condos and rest ahead of two extraordinary cultural days.
The Manhyia Palace Museum opens the door to Ashanti royalty — centuries of resistance against European colonialism, gold trade heritage, and living governance traditions. The afternoon brings you to the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum and then to the staggering Kejetia Market: the largest market in West Africa, with over 11,000 stalls drawing traders from across the continent.
Visit Adanwomase the ancient village where Kente weaving was born and try your hand at the craft under the guidance of local artisans. In the afternoon, participate in a Sankofa naming ceremony where a village chief and elders bestow a traditional Ghanaian name upon each traveler. U.S. citizens require a visa to enter Ghana. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival. TML provides guidance on the application process when you book.
Yellow Fever Vaccine
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for Ghana entry. Visit your doctor or a travel health clinic well in advance. Malaria prophylaxis is also strongly recommended.
